The origin of our universe
Over the centuries men have strived to control and manipulate nature, our ancestors used simple mechanisms to make their day to day work easier. According to science, there was once a point called the singularity. The events before the singularity are not much understood. The current known science cannot explain the conditions before the singularity. The physics we know and the mathematical knowledge we understand is not enough to describe the conditions of nature before this point. Ok, now that we are all set to let us now talk of the events after the singularity, or more precisely, the events from the point of the singularity.

Our current science allows us to extrapolate and put a strain on the data and the values we have to give us a more accurate prediction of what we do not know. This tool of extrapolation is what gives us the mysterious point we are talking about which is the singularity. The astronomical observations we have now shows that the universe with which we reside in is constantly expanding. It is not known by the fact what causes this but for certainty, we know that it is moving. Of course, there are other things which might ignite our minds for the possible explanations on this like the dark matter or dark energy or antimatter etc., we will leave that for another time but now we are going to focus on this point, the singularity. So due to the scientific extrapolations we have, when we extrapolate the ultimate point at which the expansion that we currently see we get something weird, that the universe must have started on some point in space. The point is called the singularity and it is suspected that this point might be small, very small even smaller than the current subatomic particles we know. It is at this point where the laws of science and the mathematics we know breaks. Let us further look at more of this weird singularity.
The next thing we know about this singularity thing is that for some reason it was unstable. This object was so massive and dense since it contained the whole universe in it. For some reason, however, this singularity exploded and that produce the universe we have today. It is not certain for the fact that this is true because we are basing our predictions on the simple observations that we see and we make deductions out of them. For instance, if you are told that all humans are intelligent and you know that you are human. It would make a pretty good deduction that since you are human too you are most likely to be intelligent. However, while this is the case, there may be much we don’t know, there are much we do not see, so we can’t truly in certain agree that how things are!
That was just the scientific explanation of our origin. There are other explanations on how the universe came. We are going to discuss just two of them which seem to clearly define well how the universe came to be. The bible and the Quran stories of how the universe came to be are pretty similar, let us talk exclusively on the biblical explanation. According to the bible, God created the universe by the word of mouth. The bible says that at the beginning, there was water all over the universe. It is not known for the fact that it was physical water being talked about or the spiritual but we will ignore the spiritual part and just stick to the physical one. So, the story goes on to say that God himself spoke and everything happened as he wished. The point we want to focus on the structure of the universe according to the bible. The structure shows that the highest point in the biblical universe is the seventh heaven where God resides. Then below the seven heavens, there is a large body of water, actually the ‘primordial’ water. This body of water separates the heavens and the sky. Then it further goes on to say that the sky we see is just but a dome where God installed the stars, sun, moon and other heavenly bodies we see. The biblical explanation further goes on to say that after the sky, there is the earth we see and below it there is the abyss where the demons are supposedly said to reside.
Heaven and abyss
According to Scandinavian mythology, we are first introduced to the universe where there was two worlds which was Muspelheim, the land of fire and Jotunheim the land of ice. These two places were said to be separated by a void called Ginungagap. The heat from Muspelheim rose up to Jotunheim where it curved out the first life form, a giant who was called Ymir. The story goes on to say that Ymir survived by sucking the tits of the space cow which was curves out by the heat from Muspelheim. The cow in turn survived by licking ice. One day the cow was licking ice, it liked a particular place in the ice where it tasted salt. It licked further and finally, the cow uncovered the first Asgardian by the name of Buri. It is not known how they came about but over time the number of giants and Asgardians increased in number. Among Asgardians were Odin, Bor, Villi, Feya. Bor is said to be the father of the three who in turn is the son of Buri. It is said that the Asgardians, the gods came to hate the giants and they slew them, from the corpse of Ymir, the rest of the universe was created. It is said that from his body was the earth created, his hair was the trees created, his blood was the water bodies we see created, It further says that from Ymir’s skull the gods were able to set up the heavens, from the little sparks remaining from Ymir’s skull they created the heavenly bodies like the sun and stars we see. Finally, the Asgardians set up foundations of Asgard from the skull of Ymir and then stretched the rainbow bridge called Bifrost to connect Asgard to earth. And that’s how the universe came to be according to the Scandinavian mythology!
That was all on the brief story of our universe and how we came from. What do you think about this? Where do you think the universe came from or how do you think it came about? Let us know on the comments section below!!
